What happens in the Game of Thrones book?

Ok so i watched the TV show on HBO game of thrones and i understand it is a book, so i was wondering how much has the show sticked to the book and SPOILER ALERT, I want to know what happens i cant stand waiting. I just got done watching lord Stark try to get the Lanisters out of the throne room and the city guard betrays him and the guy that pays the guard i cant remember his name tells him he told him not to trust him. SO someone tell me what happens i must know!What happens in the Game of Thrones book?
The TV show is a pretty faithful adaptation of the book. There's been a few things changed, added, deleted, combined or simplified, but overall, it's following the story closer than any book-to-screen adaptation I've ever watched.



What happens next..? Hmm... Well, trying to tell the new King that he's got no claim to the throne and trying to name someone else as king is considered treason.

The books are really good and the show stick pretty close, though almost all the kids' ages are off by one or two years. They're a good read, unless you don't like to read a lot. They're all pretty long.
