Is the Game of Thrones trilogy complicated to read?

Is it similar to The LOTR books in terms of writing?

I'm looking for more of a easier read for holiday but even if I read it at home... it looks like a thick story that is complex and complicated to understand... is this true?

I'm 16, and I know a lot of my peers have read it but for me it just looks too heavy (not in terms of size, more plot) even though I can usually get through any book.Is the Game of Thrones trilogy complicated to read?
Not to make it sound even more intimidating, but it's a septology (seven books). Book five is due to be released in a few days.

I don't find it nearly as complicated as LOTR. Tolkien turned me off with all his languages and glossaries and maps (sorry, Tolkien fans), so I was reluctant to read Game of Thrones.

But Martin made things easy to follow. He starts with one character, and then gradually introduces his wife, his sons, his king, then the king's wife, the king's brother-in-law, etc. So you're learning about people in terms of their relationships to each other. And while people speak different languages, everything is written in English. The author keeps people's motivations very personal, so it's not like a war happens because of some thousand-year-old prophecy that the elves foretold in this poem that I will now recite blah blah blah. It's because that jerk killed my father/brother/mother and I'm going to get my revenge.

For me, it's like a TV series I come back to every few days. It's not like I think, "God, watching The Simpsons is taking so long! And who is this Mr. Burns? Am I supposed to remember him?"

Yes, the books are thick, but it's not a boring slog. So I read a few pages every few days, and it's an enjoyable time. Near the end of each book I speed up, as serious s*** goes down at the end, and I can't take the suspense. I started book 1 in March, I think, and now I'm in book 3. I'm enjoying myself, and I'm taking my time.

Read 'em! :)Is the Game of Thrones trilogy complicated to read?
It's not an easy read. It's very slow paced and overly descriptive. I read what I thought was about half of the book. Then the show came out and went through all the events I've read through in two episodes.

Yeah, it's not easy. I recommend it for the hardcore fantasy lover. One fantasy book that I found was very well written as well as easy to read and understand is The Demon King by Cinda Williams Chima. It's also a pretty big book, 500 pages or so, but it get's addictive.
