I've recently watched the first series of A Game of Thrones, and i loved it. But are the books any good? I'm curious to see how the rest of the story plays out and i don't want to have to wait every year for each season.
I read Lord of the Rings, and although it was an awesome book, it did kinda feel drawn out in some places.
I also just finished reading the entire Dark Tower series by Stephen King, and with the exception of the 4th book (Wizard and Glass) i didn't really enjoy it all that much as i found that dragged in a lot of places as well.
Is A Song of Ice and Fire a better read?
Do these books drag on as well and should i just watch the series? Or should i give them a chance? I really can't decideIs A Game of Thrones and the following books worth reading?
I loved, loved, loved the first three books. I stopped about half way through the forth one. I will finish it eventually but George RR Martin seems like he has no desire to finish the series, 6 books are out and I don't even think he's working on book 7 (which is supposed to be the last one and it took him like 5 years to finish book 6, which just came out last summer) he's contracted to finish it but he can take his good ole time in doing so.
The problem with the forth book is that he started adding all of these new characters and split what was supposed to be one book into two, but the two books happen at the same time, so he pulled half of the story lines out of it, so rather than writing one great book, he wrote two pretty good ones (it probably doesn't help that all of my favorite characters are in the 5th book and the 4th book has all of these new characters that I couldn't care less about)
I will say, however, as much as I want to slap him right now, he is a really fantastic writer. Read the books and I guarantee (based on what you listed) you'll love the first three (as long as your not squeamish about characters dying, then you may hate) Even though I don't care about these new characters I can still get into each chapter (by the end of it, then he jumps perspective and doesn't go back to them for pages and pages).
So, they are worth reading, as long as you don't mind waiting for the conclusion. Is A Game of Thrones and the following books worth reading?
I couldn't stand Lord of the Rings.
That was part of the reason people who loved Gave of Thrones had to nag me half to death to give it a try. But they finally wore me down. And I really liked it.
While the large number of characters can be confusing, there are websites to help, plus a zillion people who can answer questions as they come up because they read it.
I bought the whole series in hardcover. And I don't even own any other fantasy novels. Is A Game of Thrones and the following books worth reading?
here's the thing. i saw the first series (thank GOD my channel edits out all the uneccesary things) and i absolutly loved it. so i bought the book. they have kept true to the story. which is surprising. but they have left out so many many subplots and back stories. THAT you only get to know through the book. like for example did you know the jamie lanister killed the king because the king picked him to be the kins's guard to punish his father. king's guard are are forbidden to marry. and with tyrion no competition the lanister line would have died out. jamie thought he was picked because he was the best of the best.
by the way i think jamie is a terrible name for a knight. just horrible.
so if so are interested in the subplots then buy the books. and if not then the show pretty tells everything as it is.
hope it helped
