Does game of thrones series get better?

I have about 100 pages left to read in the first book and to be quite honest I wasn't impressed with it. Sure the ending is starting to pick up, but all of the jumping from character to character was confusing, and quite frankly I felt like there wasn't a big plot. I was just wondering if its worth reading the 2nd book and whether it gets better. ThanksDoes game of thrones series get better?
