How accurate was the game of thrones hbo series?

i just finished watching game of thrones season 1 and was wondering how accurate it was to the book. also for those who read it and watched the season, is it only based of book 1 "game of thrones" or does it continue a bit into book 2 "clash of kings"

i want to buy the books and continue them but im not sure if i should read book 1 now (i will eventually) or continue with the rest. i will only read book 1 now if there were many changes or important ones.

please let me knowHow accurate was the game of thrones hbo series?
In terms of storylines - its 100 % accurate. Everything is the same. Eddard's beheading, Viserys' crowning, Daenerys becoming the first female Khal and the dragons... Everything!

BUT there were certain scenes that weren't included in the series. For example: Remember when Cat went to her sister so she can decide what to do with the Imp? Well everything was as it was only the path was longer. Cat spend hole day climbing to the castle. But nothing really happen then. Because all that it happen was describing the castle.

So yes you should read the book. I've finished the series a month ago and I was wondering the same as you. And I decided to read the first book. And yes it helped me a lot. Mainly because after the ten episodes I still didn't know the character names. I learned that the Queen is Cersei after I started reading... Also the castles are described in great details and so on and so on...

So you can start reading from Clash of Kings but I wouldn't recommend. Because I am sure that you don't know many of the names: What is Harenhall? Or Highgarden? Or Storm's End? Who is Ser Barristan Selmy? Or Ser Ilyn Pane. The only way you know this if you payed great attention to the show. In the books they are constantly mentioned so you can learn them right away.

And finally yes, only the first chapter of the second book is included in the first season. The part when Arya meets the king's bastard Gendry and heads to the Wall... And the conversation of Cat and Jamie. Where he confesses that he pushed her son of the window. How accurate was the game of thrones hbo series?
It was a fairly accurate adaption of a book series. Even the changes made (scenes added and taken away) were done with the author's approval and served to better characterize the characters.

I would definitely recommend you start from the beginning to get a feel for everything. I read the first four books in about two months. Overall, HBO did a fine job adapting the books into a television series that didn't leave out too much important information. I'd say it was a success, though you can enjoy the series without reading the books, but I would recommend the books. How accurate was the game of thrones hbo series?
It was a pretty good adaptation, better than most, but as with any adaptation there were things changed and scenes left out (and scenes added). I think they did shift some things to put a couple scenes from A Clash of Kings in already, but to be honest with you, I read the first four books all in a row and the lines between them are blurred for me.

I would definitely start with the first book. The chapters rotate whose point of view they are told from, and you learn so much more about the characters by actually being in their heads versus just seeing them on screen. You'll miss out if you skip ahead, and you'll probably come across some references you won't understand because they weren't mentioned on the show. I know the books are long and the story is awesome so you're probably eager to move on, but trust me, start with the first book and you won't regret it. Start with the second, and you very well might.
I am almost done with the first book and think it was one of the best book--%26gt; series adaptations I ever saw.

I think the main change was that they aged the young characters a bit, because it might have been difficult to have such young actors in the roles.
