Is Game of Thrones good?

Everyone says they love it, but I can't see it. I loved Lord of the Rings, and Eragon, and it seems like it's in that genre, but I just don't think I'd like it. Is it really that good? Should I get it? I tend to prefer other types of books, but I like fantasy well enough. Is Game of Thrones worth my time?Is Game of Thrones good?
It has violence and sex. There's swordplay and magic, honor above everything else, coming-of-age and rebellion. It has elements of humor mixed in. A lot of different races, but not that many that aren't human. There's even a little bit of the creepy, ghost story thrown in. It's all set in an alternate world much like ours during the middle ages. The author doesn't mess around, he kills off main characters just as easily as minor ones which gives the series a more realistic feel. It's not for everyone.

It's being talked about a lot because of the HBO series (also pretty good). Go to the library, pick up the first book and give it a try, you've lost nothing. But, no one is twisting your arm. If you don't think you'd like it, don't read it. Life is short and there's a LOT of books out there.
I almost never read fantasy genre books. I'm more into gothic novels personally, but after 3 different people recommended it to me, I decided to give it a try, AND I LOVED IT! It spectacular, and rarely slow, granted, until about chapter 8, most of it is character descriptions, but still worth it. This book made me so angry, that's how I know it was good, because it was getting at my emotions. I think you should give it a try, but I don't know how old you are, and i'm not sure i would recommend it to anyone younger than 17. Its pretty raunchy. Is Game of Thrones good?
I love Lord of the Rings but Game of Thrones blew my mind. Nothing against LOTR (it will always be a classic and a favorite of mine) but Game of Thrones surpasses it for me. I think the difference is LOTR has slow moments of detail world descriptions but Game of Thrones is easier for someone who isn't an avid fantasy reader because it doesn't get bogged down in description. It is worth it completely. I don't see why you wouldn't like it because it is in the same vein as LOTR.
