What do you think about the Game of Thrones book?

So I have been researching for a good book to read since finals are finally over!!!! -__- The Game of Thrones came up. While avoiding spoilers, can you tell me what you liked and disliked about the book? Would you recommend it? And what other books have you enjoyed reading? Thanks.What do you think about the Game of Thrones book?
I Absolutely love it. But be prepared it, currently its a 5 book series and the author for sure has two more he is writing (i didn't know this when i started). Its great because of the range of character, completely off the wall unexpected events, and the author isn't afraid to kill main characters. I don't read fantasy novels usually but i loved this. There isn't much to dislike about the books. As for other books, well my favorite book is the "Name of the Rose" but its very religious, so if you're not it may be confusing. But its the most clever book I've ever read.What do you think about the Game of Thrones book?
A Game of Thrones: A Song of Ice and Fire: Book One book that is refreshing is the lack of "magic." Not that the world is without any, it takes a major backseat in the plot. Many stories today have the "magic-user" as some kind of god-on-earth, and rely on him/her to save the world by some miraculous display of magic that only they can perform. This book has more to do with ruthless politicking than Messiahs.
