Should I read the first game Of thrones book before the 2nd? I watched the tv show.?

I watched the hbo series game of thrones and I want to read the books but indent want to waste my time with the first book if it's very similar to the show. Do I have to read it before I start the second book or is it close enough to the tv show I can skip to book 2?Should I read the first game Of thrones book before the 2nd? I watched the tv show.?
I have not seen the series, but I imagine it covered only the major plot points and few of the rich details and fascinating minor characters of the book, which is complex, multi-layered, and very, very good. While you'll probably not be totally lost if you start right in with the second book, I don't think you'll be sorry at all if you pick up the first book and read it beforehand. you can skip but i wouldn't i would read the first book, but its close enough you get the important stuff..

but they say somtimes the unimportant stuff becomes important later on..
