I saw the game of thrones series and now i want to read them, do i need to read book 1 if i saw the show?

alot of times movies/shows are difrient from the book. i want to read the series but i dont really want to read book 1 because i know what happens. do i need to read the first book to understand the second? or am i fineI saw the game of thrones series and now i want to read them, do i need to read book 1 if i saw the show?
Read the book.

The show followed the first book very closely, but not perfectly. There are characters in the first book that did not make it to the show. Plotlines were simplified, characters combined and so forth.

There will be things you will miss if you only go with the show and jump straight into book 2.
I'd say read the first book, because shows and movies usually always forget to add something that the reader would find important. Plus you will learn more about your favortie characters from the book than the show.I saw the game of thrones series and now i want to read them, do i need to read book 1 if i saw the show?
Read the book anyway. Many characters in the book were younger than in the series (Jon, Robb, Sansa, Arya, Joffrey, Bran were all a few years younger..Rickon isn't in the show yet but I've only seen the first episode). Khal Drogo and Daenerys wedding night was a bit different in the book.

It's a great adaptation, but if you're going to read all the other ones, why not start at the beginning.
I myself do skip the first book if I saw the movie or something. But later on, you regret it cause the movies or shows are always different from the book. I always end up reading the first book later. So why dont you read the first book encase the plot in the show missed something?I saw the game of thrones series and now i want to read them, do i need to read book 1 if i saw the show?
Just read the book anyways it was the best one in the series
