So I catch this show on HBO never having read Martin's Game of thrones books.. I do a little research. And the similarities are piling high, I don't know whether to be outraged that HBO would turn Martin's books into a show and snub Hobbs work which is by far superior and intriguing. I also feel somewhat excited to see on screen the nearly identical story of the Farseer trilogy, something I think fans have craved since they put down Fools Fate. Why not Assassins Apprentice HBO... why not?Any one else outraged at how incredibly similar Game of thrones is to Robin Hobbs Farseer/Tawny man books?
What are you outraged about? You have absolutely NO reason to be even in the least bit angry! You have NO relation to either of the authors, except you read a book.
My short answer, get over it and grow up.
But here's a little something to think about... There are BILLIONS, of stories out there. Yet, when they all go back to their very basic concept, there's only like 7 different stories you can actually tell, the only thing different is how it's told. So out of those billions of stories, there are going to be some that are alike.
Now whether it is even a little similar to the books, I don't know. Never read the books, or watched the show. But even if it is, who cares? Watch it, enjoy it, or don't.
So back to the short answer. Get over it, and grow up.
Wow... So, lets look at these similarities... A bastard main character. Okay, so they stole that idea from the show house, scrubs, and just about every other show on television that's any good. And he can control/become one with a wolf. Wow! So they stole that idea from Eragon, who does that with a dragon! From animamorphs (anyone remember that book series?) Lassy! What's that boy? Timmy's trapped in the well!?
And the bad guys who wander around killing. So... They stole that idea from every video game, 28 days later, I am legend, and even some Disney movies.
Please, refer back to my first short answer.Any one else outraged at how incredibly similar Game of thrones is to Robin Hobbs Farseer/Tawny man books?
I strongly disagree with you. I've read both Song of Ice %26amp; Fire and the Farseer books and loved them both, but they are certainly not similar in the way you suggest. The idea of a bastard main character with a pet he's got a close bond to is almost universal in high/epic fantasy, as is the idea of mindless 'zombie' type beings running around.
I love both those series, and would love to see the Farseer books brought to the screen, but think SoI%26amp;F is far more deserving; the books broke new ground in terms of fantasy, with no good vs evil plotline and with Martin having no problem killing off anyone and everyone.Any one else outraged at how incredibly similar Game of thrones is to Robin Hobbs Farseer/Tawny man books?
Um... what? Care to provide a list of similarities? I gave up on both series after the first book, but about the only resemblance I can see is that both feature lots of royal and aristocratic characters trying to outmanoeuvre one another - hardly grounds for an accusation of copying.
