Is new TV programme 'Game of Thrones' on Sky Atlantic, based on the book 'A Game of Thrones' by George Martin?

I was just wondering if anyone knows if the new programme 'Game of Thrones' starring Sean Bean, is based on the book ' A Game of Thrones' by George R. R. Martin.



I haven't read the book yet, but it's next on my list, and I heard that they were going to make a TV programme about it, and I was wondering if it was the Sky Atlantic one.



Also, does anyone know it the TV programme will be out on DVD at some point, as I don't have the Sky Atlantic channel.

Yes it is indeed the same thing. George Martin has been posting news about it on his blog since before filming started and many people, including myself, are really quite excited by it. I strongly recommend you read the books before watching it, as I think doing it the other way round would lessen your enjoyment of the books.



Don't know about DVD release I'm afraid; I don't have Sky either, but a mate does so going to his for the premiere, and will download any I can't watch there off Pirate Bay (yes, I know, but I'm not forking out 拢30+ a month for Sky plus installation, and couldn't afford it even if I wanted to. yes it is, the series is going to based on all of the "songs of fire and ice" series, although I imagine with all TV adaptations it will be different in places.
