I know they just made a TV series on HBO, which is sadly how I found out about the books. Now, are the books actually a good read? Are the "Game of Thrones" books good?
If you are a fan of the fantasy genre and don't mind books with complex and at times provocative storylines, then I would absolutely suggest you give the series A Song of Ice and Fire (the first book being A Game of Thrones) a shot. As a whole, I really do enjoy this series. That being said, the series does have its pros and cons...
In its favor, A Song of Ice and Fire has an intriguing variety of characters, many of which are, realistically, neither wholly good nor wholly bad. And the world in which the story takes place is wonderfully contrived, intricate and also very believable given the time period and circumstances of the story. Another pro is that, just as in our real world, nothing in this story's world is cut and dry -- the story is complex and intricate, and the characters have to deal with the fact that their world is so complex and at times confusing. Overall, A Song of Ice and Fire is truly entertaining.
Yet the books in this series also have their cons. One such con is that the books do contain some concepts that are definitely provocative in nature. Also, as another con, sometimes the wide array of characters and complex storylines simply make the story, well, a bit confusing; however, with careful reading and patience everything will make sense. I also must say that while the first three books in the series are truly exciting and enthralling, the last two books that have been published have not really been up to par; however, the series is not yet finished, and so perhaps once all is written and wrapped up these seemingly inferior books in the series will be seen in a better light.
I guess what I'm saying is that, for the most part, I really do find this series worthwhile. So, as I said earlier, if you enjoy fantasy and don't mind a complex yet also thought-provoking story, I would really suggest you give A Song of Ice and Fire a shot.
Best wishes! Are the "Game of Thrones" books good?
I read the first book, wasn't impressed at all, completely forgot about it, then when it came out reluctantly watched the first episode of the series on TV, wasn't impressed either, but ended up watching the rest anyway since I spent the summer stuck in a hotel room like Oldboy in a foreign country like Lost in Translation with nothing to do but download TV shows, but other people seem to love the books and the TV series. I don't get it. The D%26amp;D adventures I come up with are much more interesting.
