Which audience is Game of Thrones intended for?

I am curious as to which audience Game of Thrones and the other books in 'A song of Ice and Fire' intended for?Which audience is Game of Thrones intended for?
Adults. This is NOT Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter. This is a "hard R" so to speak. Put it in the same category with "The Wire", "The Sopranos" or for movies, "Watchmen".

I also think that HBO first reached out to the very large fanbase for the books. There were far more ASoIaF readers before the HBO show than there were readers for the Southern Vampire Series before True Blood came out. The initial press releases seemed to be designed to assure the book fans that HBO was going to stay true to the books and create a faithful adaptation. True Blood is an entertaining series on its own, but they really went their own way on the plots. It worked for True Blood, but fans didn't want to see the same thing happen in Game of Thrones.
for it just being a fantasy show, i would say you adult men and women. but since the series is a VERY popular book series then I would also say it's gonna be hitting alot more then that.

ignore those two critic reviews that say it is only for young men and idiots. one, the fact that the fans actually read more then romance, twilight and the newspaper is a sign of intelligence (or the ability to be literate) and i'm a girl and i read it. i was recommended by multiple girls to read it before i even did.Which audience is Game of Thrones intended for?
Me! I loved the books and I love the HBO series. Oh, and I'm a 20-something female.
The kind of audience that will pay for an HBO subscription.Which audience is Game of Thrones intended for?
Adults.
It's adult fantasy - so adults.
