The first season covered all of book 1 so you can start on book 2. However the other user is right in that the show doesn't go into some scenes that are in the books and adds a lot of scenes just so the viewer can get some sex action or they try to quickly explain something because they never showed the scenes in the book which are necessary to move on. My brother is starting the books after the show ends and even though he's not a reader he wants to start on book 1 just because he doesn't want to miss anything.The Game of thrones book?
the show barely covered all the details and characters' pov. but anyway it continues close to the end of the book though unless the last episode covers that as which it looks like it might. start from the 2nd book: a clash of kings though i recommend reading from the first book.
