I have to do a 10 minute presentation on a book I like. I'm at odds with these three:
A Game of Thrones by George R.R Martin
Pet Sematary by Stephen King
At the Mountains of Madness by H.P Lovecraft (or a collection his short stories as a whole)
Which one do you think would give the teacher (and classmates - I'm new at the school) a good impression? You can also recommend another book as long as I can read it in one night (any genre will do).
PS. While I'm here I might as well ask this: does the period come before or after close paranthetis? Simply put: "(random stuff.)" or "(random stuff)."?
Thanks in advanceWhich of these books should I do my English presentation on?
Pet Sematary. It's the most well known one, Stephen King is the best writer of the century, and the rest of them are just average books. It really depends on your grade, but I'll say you're a freshman or a sophomore? So Pet Sematary (and anything by Stephen King) would be impressing. George RR Martin and HP Lovecraft are nowhere near as successful and complicated.
Good Luck!
P.S: "(Random Stuff.)"
Not sure for the books due to the fact I've only heard of one of them but for the period it depends on your sentence. Such as "Mary Elise loved Frank (Her grandfather)." That falls after. But for "Mary Elise loved Frank (Frank was her grandfather.)." You need to put one before cause it's a sentence as well as after to complete.Which of these books should I do my English presentation on?
Game of thrones would definitely give the students the best impression, because some of them might be familiar with the tv show on HBO. I loved that book!
Pet Sematary by Stephen King would be a great one to do. It's different from the mainstream.Which of these books should I do my English presentation on?
The Picture of Dorian Gray would be a fantastic book to talk about and do a presentation on, however, unless you are a stupendously speedy reader, I don't believe you could read it in one night.
I haven't read any of the books you've mentioned, but I believe you should choose whichever book has the most in it. What I mean to say is, within, let's say, Twilight, there is not much more to the story than romance. The story is about romance, and that's pretty much all there is it to it. My favorite book has betrayal, tests of loyalty, sacrifices, Russian legends, magic, the battle of good vs. evil, and forbidden romance. The book you choose doesn't need to have these things specifically nor exclusively, but just choose whichever book has the most within its story. For one last example, The Picture of Dorian Gray (the book I mentioned earlier) is about a young man who is very handsome, and realizes that one day he will lose his youth and be old. He decides youth is the only thing worth having in this world and wishes he would never age, and remain youthful and attractive forever. He makes this wish while an artist is painting a portrait of him. His wish comes true, and even when he's in his forties, he looks 18. But the portrait reveals his true self. Not only does his portrait age, but it reveals the evil in him, once he starts making some really bad decisions. The ending was AWESOME and I never saw it coming. I hope that I was at least of some help. Good luck!! :]
