Is the book Game of thrones exactly like the show?

I just started the series 'a song of fire and ice" by george rr martin and so far the first book seems to be really close to the show on hbo. I'm only about 120 pages in so I was wondering if it stays this way or gets better, not that it's bad. It just feels like I'm reading what I've watched already. Is the book Game of thrones exactly like the show?
Yeah, the show is pretty close to the book. Actually one of the episodes was written by the author (of the books) himself. The 8th one.

The book has much more details. You learn some things about the past and you get a much better image of the characters, since you are finding out what their thoughts are.

There are only one or two things that are different. Like for example it's Khal Drogo who learns the "common tongue" and not Daenerys (the Khaleesi) who becomes fluent in Dothraki language (although she does learn).

Personally I like it that way. Since it's an adaptation they need to respect the original/ source text.
