The show followed the first book fairly well. The main difference is in the age of the younger characters. They're all 2 or 3 years older than they were in the book. Bran is 7, Sansa 11, Arya 9, Robb and Jon are both 15.
The relationship between Drogo and Danaerys is a bit different, at least in the beginning. I don't know, you just get to know the characters better in the books. Jon Snow is not the wounded puppy they have playing him in the show....sorry, he's my favorite...well, and Tyrion...and Arya.
You'll be fine understanding Clash of Kings without reading Game of Thrones. But you'll get a little extra if you go ahead and read the first one first.Game of Thrones..which book should I read?
You'd be missing a lot... I'm fairly certain I know here the show left off with, and it's only about three fourths through the first book. Just start with A Game of Thrones. But in all honesty, you'll find the parts you do know dreadfully boring most likely.Game of Thrones..which book should I read?
i would suggest starting at the beginning. its always best to start at the beginning of a series. you wouldt start watching he show in the middle of the series would you?
I'd start with the first book.
