I started the first book of the series "The Game of Thrones" and I was wondering from some of you that have read the series....do any of the Starks gain some type of magic? Is this mostly swords? I've read lots of books and my favorite is Robert Jordan. I am halfway through The Game of Thrones and it just seems a bit slow to me. I expected a lot more since most people who have read the WoT series expressed a lot of amazement with this series as well. Do things move faster later in the book or in the series?A song of Ice and Fire by GRRM?
I thought the pace was fairly slow, but I don't read other fantasy so I can't compare it.
However, our daughter got rid of her Wheel of Time books after discovering GRRM, because she realized how poor by were by comparison.
Lots happens to the various assorted Starks, but I don't think I'll deliver any spoilers just now. I'm increasingly fond of Arya the further I read--are you? Although Tyrion remains my favorite.
The series includes several events for which there seems to be no rational explanation. Is that magic?
