Is there a problem naming my son Beric?

So for about 2 years now I have wanted to name my son Beric. and my girlfriend has always been fine with it until recently.

Beric is the name of a character from a books series called "Song of Ice and Fire" and Beric Dondarrion is my favorite character. he is such a loyal honest law abiding brave God fearing man, and I want my son to embody these characteristics, I don't think it would be dumb to name him after a book character. Like I said my gf was ok with this until she SAW beric in the new HBO series " A Game of Thrones" and she didn't like how he looked and now doesn't want to name our kid after him. What should I do if anything?

She is 8 weeks pregnant. Is there a problem naming my son Beric?
I think it's an ugly name. Why not name him Eric.
The best boys name in the world! - Ancient British name pre-Viking. Meant to be derived from the name Verica. Verica an ancient tribal King who was located around the Selsey Bill area - coins found there show a head on one side and a vine on the other (there are some at the British museum).

There is a book called the Heirs of Verica by Martin Hennigs and more famously a fictional book called Beric the Britain by G.E. Henty (came out in the 1940's I think). Beric the Britain is a fictional character who is a fierce warrior defending Britain against the invading Romans.

Other prominent Berics - Beric Wadham of Wadham Games, Beric Tempest - a publisher of postcards and Beric Morely - an archeaologist who has appeared on Time Team. Good Luck I hope all goes well for you.

Switch it to Garrick, nice German name, means strong spear.

The problem is women are crazy. They associate easily. She saw the visual charachter of Beric and now every time she sees or hears the name Beric she associates with this guy.

Sadly, not good for you. I would find a new name. Try Tolkien's works. :D
If she does not like it there is nothing you can do as it is her baby also. Perhaps use it as a middle name for him? if not come up with a different name that you both like.
If meaning of Beric is Song of Ice and Fire dont keep that name. The secret meaning in that name conflict within itself. Find some great good name.
Not much you can do about it. You guys have to agree on a name since its both your child.
Aeric.

Beric isnt bad but is she doesnt like it she doesnt like it.

Maybe use as a middle name but call him Beric yourself!
I'm not keen on the name, regardless of the meaning. It sounds too harsh for me. How about Eric? That's super cute!

Hope this helps :) ?
I'm not a fan of the name, I would go back to the naming books and find another.
I'd advise: If you don't agree about a name choose another one.
Not keen, sorry!
i think its a cool, tough name.the show and books mentioned are not going to be relevant references people will think of down the road, so dont let that stop either of you. the counterpoint is that it sounds like army barracks, which are living quarters. that combined with it sounding a bit like barrack obama is more of a downside to me, but if you like it those arent THAT bad anyway. ive come across beric bc we have considered Barrett for our son on the way. its got some negatives with word association too tho. bottom line is if you dont mind the associations its a tough name for a little guy, so go with it!
Though I personally am not keen on it I would have to say I feel you on this question. I had the same problem when naming my son. I heard the name Brody first as a last name and I thought it was cute and different. I fee in love with the name so I asked my baby's dad what he thought and he said he heard it on a commercial for "The Hills" Brody Jenner. He didn't like the fact he was a party hard womanizer so he said absolutely NO! I told him I liked it with Nathaniel. So now we have a 18 month old son named Brody Nathaniel and neither of us ever looked back!

**Moral to the story**

Suggest names you would like to go with it...as either a first or middle name. You never know one of those names may grow on her and you may get your way after all. =]

Good Luck and Congrats!
