Best history books on Royalty of England and other countries?

Embarrassingly I am just beginning to get interested in Royalty after watching lots of Tudors, Game of Thrones, and Marie Antoinette. What are some good starter history books on these subjects? I have found some good websites, but prefer reading books to staring at my computer screen. I am mostly just looking to educate myself on the subject because I find it so interesting.

I am already watching the uk series "Monarchy" but I am craving literature on the subjects.

In general or specifically one person, I don't care.Best history books on Royalty of England and other countries?
There are lots of good books on the Tudor monarchs, for a good general book on the Tudors I would recommend The House of Tudor by Alison Plowden.

There are lots of books on Henry VIII and his wives, Henry VIII, King and Court by Alison Weir is one I particularly enjoyed, it has lots of detail about life at court which I found very interesting. Alison Weir also wrote The Six Wives of Henry VIII, and there are other good books by Antonia Fraser and David Starkey. Henry VIII and his Queens, by David Loades, is a good book which is shorter than the others I have mentioned.

There are a great many books on Queen Elizabeth I, The Virgin Queen by Christopher Hibbert is a good one, as is Elizabeth I by David Loades, and Elizabeth the Queen by Alison Weir. Marriage with My Kingdom by Alison Plowden is a very entertaining book about Elizabeth I's many courtships.

There are many books about Marie Antoinette, my personal favourite is Marie Antoinette by Joan Haslip.

Britain's Royal Families by alison Weir is a good book which tells you all about the relations of theroyal families of Britain, going back to the earliest times, it covers the Scottish royal families (which were seperate from England until 1603) and Welsh as well (they were independent until the 13th century). it shows how they were related to each other, how many children they had etc. A Brief History of the Kings and Queens of Britain by Mike Ashley is a very good general book on British monarchs.

Lives of the Kings and Queens of France by the Duc de Caselis is a good book about the French monarchy. It is out of print, but there are second hand copies for sale on amazon.

I think you are quite right to prefer books to information on the internet. Some websites do not give accurate information.Best history books on Royalty of England and other countries?
Alison Weir's books on British royalty are a good start: well-researched but not too scholarly. She also writes novels, so make sure you choose her non-fiction books.

You might also try the books of Antonia Fraser, a serious historian who has managed to accumulate a popular following. She has written on Marie Antoinette, Mary, Queen of Scots, Charles II, and the wives of Henry VIII.

You can look for these authors' books on Amazon and then try to find them in libraries. Any good library should have them.

And this is a good library search project that will teach you how to use a computer catalogue effectively. Start looking for general histories of royalty in various countries.Best history books on Royalty of England and other countries?
Royal Panoply: Brief Lives of the English Monarchs by Carolly Erickson is a good one for English Monarchs.
