B&A: What underlying themes resonate with you in books?

I had answered a question regarding favorite quotes, and I noticed that a lot of the books (and manga) I read have an underlying theme of kindness, or I really like characters that show kindness, even if it's not quite shown or voiced effectively by the character.

My absolute fave quotes:

* It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye. - The Little Prince

* True kindness isn't something we're born with. It's something we had to work on... - Fruits Basket

* My happiness comes from the kindness of those around me. - Fruits Basket

BQ: I also think it's fascinating if there's different flavors of kindness: 1) kindness that cuts or wounds but in the end was indeed a great kindness and helpful 2) kindness that turns out to be the wrong kind and smothers or harms

What do you think? :)

BQ2: If you are currently reading a book, what is that book's underlying theme?

mine: Game of Thrones by George RR Martin - human flaws and the quest for power

BQ3: I'm going to borrow a question from a fellow poster - If the book you are currently reading was food, what would it be? (could be any type of food).

me: A bloody steak crusted with herbs and pepper, lemons for garnish, with fresh spinach.

(just the feeling of the book) :3

BQ4: What's the weather like by you? :)

me: surprisingly, it's slightly overcast (usually it's sunny)B%26amp;A: What underlying themes resonate with you in books?
Hmmm...I think darker, more tragic underlying themes resonate the most with me. I don't know why, though. :P

BQ: Wow, I never thought if it as "flavors" of kindness. Neat! :) Haha, I like selfless kindness, like in the story where a homeless man gives half of his belongings to another homeless man.

BQ2: Ahh, I wanna read that book! xD But currently, I am not reading a book (*Gasp!*)

BQ3: ...nothing, as I am reading nothing. :P

BQ4: It's nice n' sunny! :)

Hope I helped :)
